The short version
Your scripts and projects never leave your computer. Scriptease has no analytics, no tracking and no ads. The app does talk to our license service in a few specific moments (starting a free trial, activating a license, and checking that a license is still valid), and it needs a small amount of information to do that: your email address for a trial, and an anonymous device identifier. This policy lists exactly what, why, and who handles it.
EGETECH LTD ("we," "our," or "us"), Toronto, Ontario, Canada, publishes Scriptease ("the App").
What stays on your device
Everything you create in Scriptease, including scripts, breakdowns, stripboards, schedules, budgets, shot
lists, call sheets, moodboards, storyboards and every other project file, is stored only on your
computer in your .sts project files. We cannot see, access or retrieve it. We never
receive your script content.
The optional name you enter for greetings inside the App is also stored only on your device.
What we collect, and when
| Moment | What is sent to us | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Starting a free trial | Your email address; an anonymous device identifier; a device label (operating-system platform and language, e.g. "MacIntel-en-CA"); the time | To give you one 14-day trial per computer, to send trial-related messages, and to prevent repeat trials |
| Activating or deactivating a license | Your license key; the anonymous device identifier; the device label | To tie your license to your computer(s) and let you move it to another one |
| Checking a license (when you launch the App while online) | Your license token | To confirm the license is still valid. If the check cannot be completed, the App simply keeps working. |
| Contacting support from inside the App | Whatever you type in the form (purchase email, message, optional name and license key) | To answer you |
| Checking for updates | A standard web request to our update server (which includes your IP address and the App version) | To tell you when a new version is available |
The anonymous device identifier is a one-way SHA-256 hash of a hardware identifier. It cannot be turned back into the original identifier, and we do not receive your computer name, your username, or any file names.
Purchases are handled by our payment provider, LemonSqueezy, which acts as the Merchant of Record. It collects and processes your name, email, billing details and payment information under its own privacy policy. We receive the order details we need to issue and support your license (such as your email and license key). We never see your full payment card number.
What we do not collect
- The content of your scripts or projects
- Usage analytics, behavioral data or crash reports
- Location data
- Advertising identifiers, cookies or tracking pixels in the App
- Your contacts, files outside those you choose to open or save, or your browsing activity
How we use your information
- To provide the trial and license service you asked for
- To contact you about your trial, your license and support requests
- To send occasional product news about Scriptease. Each such message includes a way to unsubscribe, and you can also opt out any time by writing to support@scriptease.app.
- To prevent abuse of the trial and of license sharing
- To meet legal, tax and accounting obligations
We do not sell your information, and we do not share it with advertisers.
Who handles it for us
- Cloudflare hosts our license service, database and downloads. It processes requests (including IP addresses) as our infrastructure provider.
- LemonSqueezy processes payments and receipts, as described above.
- Email delivery providers we use to send messages you should receive (receipts, trial and support email).
These providers may process data in countries other than your own, including Canada and the United States.
How long we keep it
We keep trial and license records for as long as needed to provide the service, prevent repeat trials and meet tax and legal requirements. Support messages are kept as long as needed to resolve your request and for a reasonable time afterward.
Access to your files
macOS asks your permission before Scriptease can use your Documents, Desktop or Downloads folders. The App uses them only to save and open your projects and exports, and to import scripts you choose. It does not scan your folders.
Your rights and choices
You can ask us at any time to tell you what we hold about you, correct it, or delete it. Email support@scriptease.app. We will act on your request within a reasonable time, except where we must keep a record by law (for example, a purchase record for tax purposes). Deleting a trial record may allow a new trial to be started on the same computer.
If you are in Canada, the EU or the UK, you may also have rights under applicable privacy law, including the right to complain to your local privacy regulator.
Children
Scriptease is a professional tool and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Data security
Your projects are only as safe as your computer. We recommend regular backups, macOS disk encryption (FileVault) and keeping your system up to date. Communication with our license service uses HTTPS.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. Material changes will be reflected in the "Last Updated" date above and published on our website, scriptease.app.
